Laura Overton MA, CCC-SLP, BRS-FD is a licensed speech language pathologist in the state of Texas. She is certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is a Board Recognized Specialist in Fluency Disorders.
Laura has seventeen years of experience with outcome focused speech therapy with both children and adults. Laura has worked in both Garland and Fort Worth ISDs as well as in private practice. In addition to specialized stuttering treatment Laura has experience with articulation, apraxia, phonological process, receptive language, expressive language, pragmatic language, velo-pharyngeal incompetence, literacy and voice therapy. She has completed extensive training through the region XI service center in both high and low tech augmentative communication as well as serving on the assistive technology team at Fort Worth ISD. She is trained in a variety of visual strategies including PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
Laura has experience with the speech and language skills of children with a variety of special needs including autism specrtrum disorders, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, traumatic brain injury, emotional disorders, and behavior disorders. Her approach utilizes family, teachers and the community to provide the most impact for each individual.
Laura is dedicated to her practice and the community. She is a member of the National Stuttering Association and the Fort Worth Family Chapter Stuttering Support Group Leader. She has received the ASHA continuing education award as well as the Burtis Vogel community service award. She has provided workshops on both stuttering and assistive technology to a variety of audiences including school districts and the Texas Speech and Hearing Association Annual Convention.
